Elegant, easy-to-install, well-engineered and feature-rich, the NEST Hello is a refined, elegant and unobtrusive addition to your front door.
The Nest Hello doorbell comes in at a slim 4.6 x 1.7 x 1inches, with rounded corners making it the easiest to place doorbell of our tests. This does however mean that it doesn't have room for a battery and that it requires a wired connection with 16 to 24 volts of power. But in a Canadian climate where winter is very harsh on batteries, this doesn't prove to be a major downfall.
The Nest Hello is one of the most feature-rich smart doorbells on the market. With 24/7 streaming and continuous video recording, HDR videos, person, motion and sound alerts to detect visitors and facial recognition that can recognize friends and family and send you a special alert.
We've found the Nest Hello to be the most reliable of the video doorbell products that we have tested across the board.
RING VIDEO DOORBELL 2
Ring is the most popular of the video-doorbell options out there, and they've been doing it the longest. The Ring Doorbell 2 is the largest of the options, coming in at 5 x 2.5 x 1 inches. The Ring Pro is slightly smaller by ditching the battery.
The construction of the Ring Doorbell 2 doesn't quite hold up to Canada's punishing cold winters, and we've experienced a high rate of failure on these doorbells.
One unique and advantageous feature of the Ring Doorbell is that it has adjustable motion zones, which allows you to cancel out vegetation or other objects that regularly move in the wind. This helps reduce the number of false notifications and alarms.
RING VIDEO DOORBELL PRO
The Ring Video Doorbell Pro is notably smaller and more attractive than it's sibling, with multiple face plate options to help it blend better into your house. This smaller size does come at the cost of the exclusion of a battery, meaning it must be hard-wired to the house, but in our experience, this is the best option.
In addition to the smaller size, the Ring Video Doorbell Pro supports both 2.4ghz and 5ghz wireless connection, ensuring that you will have an uninterrupted connection to your doorbell and a stronger video signal.
We have extensive experience installing all 3 of these units, and by a wide margin, the Nest Hello Video Doorbell is the most feature rich, solidly built, reliable and usable doorbell on the market. We have not had a single one fail or prove unreliable.
While other options do have advantages, and any of these models would be an excellent addition to your home.
